Environmentally friendly solutions – Eco Lighthouse

Electricity and water were never installed on Littleisland Lighthouse, and for the many years electricity and heat were produced solely by a diesel generator. Today we’re proud of a more environmentally friendly energy solution. Solar cells are now our main source of energy from March to October.

The goal is to further reduce our diesel generator usage by adding windmills to our island. We are very conscious about the use of energy here at Littleisland Lighthouse. We use a gas oven in the kitchen and heat the house with wood stoves during winter.

At the lighthouse they’ve been gathering rain water since the very first days. But during dry summers and periods with lots of guests, that’s not always enough. We are currently working on a solution. The lighthouse will be supplied with water from the mainland through underwater pipes. This will ensure a safe and secure water situation for the lighthouse.
